UK Study China Programme Easter 2010

The opening ceremony of UK Study China Program Easter 2010 was held at Beijing Normal University on March 19, 2010. 104 students selected from 40 prestigious universities in Britain attended the ceremony.

The UK Study China Program was sponsored by the British Government Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills (renamed as BIS) and carried out by the University of Manchester and Beijing Normal University . The first program was run in Beijing in March 2007 with 200 students from 55 English universities and spent three weeks in China . Students are mainly expected to take Chinese classes, visit places of interest and learn about traditional Chinese culture such as calligraphy and paper cutting during the program.

This year, the students will visit the Great Wall, tour around the countryside and learn about Chinese economy by visiting local companies.

Bill Rammel, Britain ’s Higher Education Minister, said it is important for UK students to engage with China with its massive global importance.

When addressing the ceremony, Professor Xu Jialu, head of the College of Chinese Language and Culture of BNU, expressed that he hopes the program will equip students of both countries with global vision and help promote mutual understanding between the two cultures.

Over 90 student volunteers from BNU will assist the British guests during their 3 weeks stay.
