REGUALTIONS
ON THE ADMINISTRATION OF STUDENT RECORDS
(UNDERGRADUATE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)
BNU regulations
on the administration of international undergraduate student record generally
conform to regulations on the administration of full-time undergraduate
student record. At the same time, BNU takes the international students'
features into consideration and lays down the following additional regulations.
CHATER I. Application And
Registration
I. Applicants' Requirements:

Applicants
should have high moral integrity, should be willing to abide by
laws and decrees of China and rules and regulations of BNU and should
respect Chinese traditions and customs. |
|
|
Applicants
should have high school graduation certificate and average grade
of B or higher. |
|
|
Requirements
for HSK Score: |
| |
4 or above for science applicants; |
| |
6 or above for applicants for liberal arts
applicants; |
| |
3 or above for applicants
for the Chinese Language Program at the College of Chinese Language
and Culture. |
| |
Applicants
for science, arts and foreign languages should take interviews or
related examinations in the applied fields arranged by BNU. |
| |
Except
students of the Chinese Language Program at the College of Chinese
Language and Culture, BNU usually do not accept mid-course students.
|

|
Except the Chinese Language Program at the
College of Chinese Language and Culture, BNU usually do not accept
spring semester undergraduate students. |
7.
|
BNU has made the following additional regulations
for applicants for the Chinese Language Program at the College of
Chinese Language and Culture: |

|
Applicants
for Chinese Language Program whose HSK score is below 3 should provide
a certification of at least 300 hours' training in Chinese. If approved
by BNU, these applicants can enter the Trial Undergraduate Program. |

b)
|
The curriculum of the
Trial Undergraduate Program should be the same as other undergraduate
programs; students in the Trial Undergraduate Program should pay
the same tuition as international students in other undergraduate
programs. |
| |
c) |
The duration of the Trial Undergraduate Program
is one year. |
| |
|
Students who have got
a 3 or above score in HSK during the Trial Undergraduate Program
and who have passed related examinations can be accepted by other
undergraduate programs, and the credit during the Trial Undergraduate
Program is viewed as valid. |
| |
|
Students who haven't
got a 3 or above score in HSK during the Trial Undergraduate Program
or Students who haven't passed related examinations will be given
a certificate for completing the Chinese Language Course. No tuition
and other fees will be reimbursed. |
| |
|
Applicants who are just
beginners of the Chinese language can apply for undergraduate programs
only after formally studying Chinese for 6 months in the College
of Chinese Language and Culture. |
| |
|
Students who apply for
Mid-course program are required to provide related certificates
and college transcripts. Besides, they are required to take the
comprehensive examination held by the College of Chinese Language
and Culture. Those who have passed the examination will be accepted
by related Mid-course Program. These students will study in the
College of Chinese Language and Culture for a period of at least
three years. |
II. Application Materials:

certificate(In order to apply for a Trial Undergraduate Program,
Chinese Language Program applicants whose HSK level is below three

Chinese); |

Two recommendation
letters from two teachers; |

Application fee of
RMB 500 yuan (cash or check); |
| 7. |
Two passport-sized
photos. |
III.
|
Applicants
for government exchange and
university exchange undergraduate programs are expected to go through
the application procedures according to related regulations and
agreements. |

|
IV.
|
Application
materials are expected to
arrive at the Office of International Visiting Scholars and Students'
Affairs by May 31st. These materials will be verified collectively
by the Office of Educational Administration of BNU, related departments
(institutes and schools) and the Office of International Visiting
Scholars and Students' Affairs And the Office of International Visiting
Scholars and Students' Affairs will be responsible for sending Admissions
Notices and materials for Visa application to those who are admitted
by BNU before the end of June. |

Applicants for spring
semester Chinese Language Program are expected to send their application
materials to the Office of International Visiting Scholars and Students'
Affairs by December 15th. And the Office will send Admissions Notices
and materials for Visa application to those who are admitted before
January 15th. |

V.
|
Those
who are admitted by BNU should
come to the Office and related departments (institutes and schools)
at the appointed time to register and to pay the tuition and accommodation
fee, etc. |
Chapter II. Curriculum
VI.
|
International
undergraduate students are expected to
complete the courses arranged for their respective majors according
to "BNU Teaching Plans for Undergraduate Programs". The
completion of these related courses will ensure students' credits.

Taking the situations
of international students into consideration, BNU has made the following
adjustments: |

1.
|
Students are exempted from the
following 3 type of courses: Moral Education, Marxist Theory, and
Military and Physical Education, which amounts to19 credits in total. |

2. |
A Survey of China is a compulsory course. |
| |
3.
|
Native speakers of English or students from
countries whose official language is English are exempted from English
courses. |
| |
4.
|
English courses are selective to students
who are non-native speakers of English or to students from countries
whose official language is not English. |
| |
5.
|
Students who major in Chinese in the College
of Chinese Language and Culture are required to take courses in their
second foreign languages. |
| |
6.
|
Students who have failed in examinations in
the subjects related to their majors are required to repay the tuition
and restudy the failed courses. |
| |
7.
|
Double-BA-degree courses in different departments
and schools are available to international students who pay the tuition
according to the tuition standard for international students. |
Chapter III. Issues on Transferring,
Suspension, Resumption and Leaving
VII.
|
Students
who want to transfer to another department (institute
or school) should put forward a request within 2 weeks after the
beginning of the 1st academic year. After repaying the application
fee and completing the Application Form for Transferring, students
can transfer to another department (institute or school) with the
approval of the Office and related department (institute or school). |

VIII.
|
The
longest possible duration of suspension is
3 years. Students on their own
expenses can apply for a suspension to related department (institute
or school), the Office of International Visiting Scholars and Students'
Affairs and Office of Educational Administration of BNU. Government
exchange students also need to apply to their embassies in China
and Chinese Committee for Government Scholarship. After the application
is sanctioned, students should go through the procedures concerning
their school transcripts in related departments and then send the
transcripts to the Office of International Visiting Scholars and
Students' Affairs Meanwhile, they should also go through the procedures
concerning related campus credentials and apply for a Visa. |

IX.
|
Students
on their own expenses should
apply to the Office for resumption 3 months previous to the desired
date of resumption. If approved by the related department (school
or institute) and by the Office of International Visiting Scholars
and Students' Affairs and Office of Educational Administration of
BNU, the resumption is valid. Government exchange students are expected
to apply for resumption 6 months previous to the desired date of
resumption. If approved by the related department (school or institute)
and by the Office of International Visiting Scholars and Students'
Affairs and Office of Educational Administration of BNU, and also
approved by their embassies in China and Chinese Committee for Government
Scholarship, the resumption is valid. |

| X. |
The following kinds of
students are to quit: |

1. |
those who want to discontinue
their schooling and apply to quit; |
| |
2. |
those whose applications for resumption are
not approved; |
| |
3. |
those who are mentally ill or who suffer from
epilepsy; |
| |
4. |
those who suffer from epidemic diseases and
thus unsuitable to stay in China; |
| |
5. |
those who have missed 50 hours' classes in
accumulation; |
| |
6 |
those who have seriously violated school rules; |
| |
7. |
those whose words or actions are seriously
anti-China; |
| |
8. |
those who have violated Chinese laws and who
have received punishments of detention or more serious punishments
by the Chinese legal institutions. |
| XI. |
Those who
have quitted BNU cannot re-apply. |
| |
|
XII.
|
BNU
will not return any tuition to those who are
expelled because of having violated Chinese laws. Tuitions are returned
according to Regulations on Tuition Reimbursement to students who
quit because of other reasons. |
| |
|
XIII.
|
Students
who quit should go through
various procedures before leaving, including the procedures concerning
various campus credentials and Visa.
|
Chapter IV.
|
About the
Duration, Completion of Courses, Graduation and Degree Awarded: |

XIV.
|
The
studying duration for undergraduate students
is 4 years. In case a student cannot graduate in time, the duration
can be prolonged, but no more than 2 years. During the prolonged
academic year(s), students pay the tuition according to the tuition
standard for prolonged duration for international students. Students
who finished all the courses ahead of time can apply for an earlier
graduation on the premise that they have finished no less than 3
years' undergraduate study in BNU; besides, they must pay 4 years'
tuition. Students in the Mid-course Program in The College of Chinese
Language and Culture will study for a period of at least three years,
and tuition is paid according to the actual duration of study. |

XV.
|
Students
who haven't got the required amount of credits
within 6 years will only be given a certificate of completing the
courses. Students who have got the required amount of redits can graduate,
and are given the appropriate diploma. |

|
|
XVI.
|
Students
who have got a diploma and who are up to the
standard listed in the Detailed Rules and Regulations in Conferring
Bachelor's Degree will be awarded a Bachelor's Degree and will be
given a certificate. Meanwhile, students who major in Chinese in
the College of Chinese Language and Culture must get a 9 HSK score
in order to be awarded a Bachelor's Degree. |
Chapter V. Supplement
XVII.

REGUALTIONS
ON THE ADMINISTRATION OF STUDENT RECORDS
(UNDERGRADUATE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS) has
been approved by BNU and is to be implemented from September 2002.
If any previous regulation is inconsistent with the present regulations,
the present regulations are to be implemented. If the present regulations
clash with regulations of related higher authorities, the latter
are to be implemented. |
Supplementary Regulations
on the Administration of Student Records (UNDERGRADUATE

The credits
of exempted courses won't be added to your total credits, and also
needn't be replaced by the credits of other selective courses. |
|
|
|
"A Survey of China"
is a compulsory course. The students should go to the College of
Chinese Language and Culture to register within the first week dating
from the beginning of the autumn semester, and no overdue time for
signing up again. |
|
|
|
The undergraduate students
who want to take courses in the second foreign language can begin
to take courses from the second year (the freshmen are not allowed
to choose the foreign language courses). Students should go to the
College of Foreign Language and Literature to register to take the
placement exams within the first week dating from the beginning
of the autumn semester. Students are ranged into classes of different
levels in foreign languages according to the score results. |

All the students should
choose the courses according to the appointed time of university
and schools (department, institutes) and if you can't choose courses
because of personal reasons, you have to choose them in the next

If the students are not
of the College of Chinese Language and Culture, those who have failed
in examinations in the subjects related to their majors are required
to restudy the courses and repay the tuition with RMB 200yuan /
credit according to the requirements of schools (department, institutes)
respectively. |
