ENTERING THE UNIVERSITY

1.

After arriving in Beijing, international students (referred as 'students' hereafter) are supposed to go to the Office of International Visiting Scholars and Students' Affairs (referred as 'the Office' hereafter) of the university to go through the registration procedures with their 'ADMISSION NOTICE' and 'JW201' or 'JW202' forms. Generally, the university would not arrange vehicles to meet students at railway stations or airport. Students are expected to pick up their luggage within the time limits stipulated by Chinese airport or railway stations so as not to be fined. Students should go through the registration procedures within the time limit set in the ADMISSION NOTICE. Students who cannot registrate within the time limit should present a request for delay to the Office. Anyone who exceeds the registration deadline without proper reasons are deprived of his or her qualification for entering the university.

2.

Students enjoying full scholarship of the Chinese government are supposed to come to the Office to fetch their stipend for the next month on 28th every month. The stipend begins to be issued in the month when students enter the university and stops in the month when students are supposed to graduate from the university.

3.

Students on their own expenses are expected to pay their tuition, accommodation, registration fee, etc. in a lump sum to the Office according to the standard on the admission regulations at the time of registration.

4.

Students should hand in their health certificate for verification. Before they come to China, students must undergo physical examination based on the content specified on the Admission Notice. At the time of registration, students with X visas must hand over the physical examination forms to the Office. The office will send the forms to The Sanitary and Anti-epidemic Station of Beijing for verification; if the forms cannot pass the verification, students would be asked to do the physical examination again. If they do not have health certificates after entering the university or their physical examination forms are incomplete, students should undergo physical examination at the Sanitary and Anti-epidemic Station of Beijing. Students whose physical condition does not meet the specifications of the government of PRC should leave the country within one month and the fare is at their own expanses.

5.

Students who enjoy scholarship and free accommodation are expected to live in the rooms assigned by the university. Students on their own expenses and students who enjoy scholarship but who do not enjoy free accommodation are expected to choose their preferred accommodation on the internet (www.bnulxsh.com/sushe/) according to the specifications on the Admission Notice within the set time limit; after entering the university, they are expected to live in the rooms they have chosen beforehand.

Students should go through their registration process after paying various fees, handing in 6 photos that are the same as that on the passport.

7.

Students who plan to major in departments for more than one semester should go through the registration process and receive 'Notice for Enrolling Department' at the Office and register themselves at the department, institute or college with the Notice within the first week of each semester.

8.

Students should go to the Public Security Bureau of Beijing with their health certificate from The Sanitary and Anti-epidemic Station of Beijing to apply for the Residence Permit within 30 days after their arrival in Beijing. The Bureau will penalize those who miss the procedures; i.e. they will be fined 500-- 5000 RMB according to the Administration Law of Leaving & Entering the Country of PRC.

BNU generally does not allow students to change their majors and subject areas that have been determined before entering the university. Any non-degree student who has to change his or her major for some special reasons is supposed to put forward the request within one week dating from the first day of class of the semester. It can only be changed under the agreement of the Office and related departments, institutes or colleges. Anyone whose request exceeds the time limit will not be allowed to change his or her major. Students studying for academic degrees are not allowed to change their majors. Government-exchange non-degree students should also get the consensus of their Embassies in China if they want to change their majors.

10.

If the duration set for study needs to be changed, students on their own expenses should put forward the application to the Office 6 months before the fixed finishing date; government-exchange students should get the approval of their Embassies in China, and then, if it is agreed, the Embassies should apply to the State Commission of Scholarship Funds of China before November the 1st of the same year when students enter the university.

11.

Students who are admitted by the university but who are unable to come to the university and carry on study normally for some special reasons will maintain their qualification for entering the university within one year. These students are expected to put forward a written application to resume their study to the Office 6 months before the beginning of the new semester. If they fail to come and resume their study at the beginning of the second academic year, they will lose their qualification for studying in the university.
