Notice for the New International Students of Beijing Normal University(Autumn, 2008

 

I.           When you have received BNU Admission Notice, you should:

A.      Choose Accommodation

1.  Reserve your accommodation on BNU campus by way of having access to http://www.bnulxsh.com/sushe/index.php.The reservation period is from 8:00 May 1st 2008 to 0:00 Aug. 10th 2008 (Beijing time), within which you can alter or amend your choice about which international students’ apartment you prefer. We will arrange your accommodation in accordance with your final choice before the deadline.

2.  What You Have to Do if You Live Off BNU Campus: If you live off BNU campus, you must present your legal residence certificate and your telephone number to International Students Office (herein later mentioned as ISO). If you live in a hotel, an apartment or an international student’s apartment at other school, you should get the certificate with the official seal from the information desk. If you rent a Chinese resident’s house, you should get a completed REGISTRATION FORM OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE with the official seal from the local police station. To get this form, you should register at the local police station with your landlord within 24 hours after you move there. Please remember bring your passport and remind your landlord to bring the Hu Kou Ben to the police station. If you could not present your legal residence certificate off campus, neither will the Public Bureau do any visa procedure, nor will ISO do the registration procedure for you.

B.      Apply for a Student’s Visa and Take a Physical Examination.

1.          Students who are studying for one Semester can apply for an F visa with no need of the physical examination.

2.          Students who plan to study for one Academic year or for more than one Academic year should apply for an X visa and need to take a physical examination. Please pay attention to the following six items concerning the Physical Examination Record Form for Foreigners.

a.        The original Record form is required;

b.       The Record form is valid for merely six months;

c.        A recent photo is required on the upper right corner of the Record form with the hospital’s stamp;

d.       The hospital’s seal, signature of the physician and signing date are required on the Record form;

e.        If you can only get the photocopied blank Record form, please have it photocopied on both sides of one page instead of two pages;

f.         Additional reports on blood tests for AIDS and Syphilis and the original Electrocardiogram are required as well.

C. Purchase Insurance

Purchase insurance including overseas medical treatment and accident injury before you come to China. The highest insured should be no less than 400,000 RMB (or other currencies of the equal sum) and the period insured should cover your study period in China. You need to present the original proof or notarized copy one of your insurance policy (in either English or Chinese, excluding any other language) to ISO staff upon registration. If you don’t have the insurance as required, you will be unable to register at BNU.

You may also buy insurance at China Ping’ an Insurance Company after arriving in China at time of registration. The company provides a special service to international students. Students who are studying for one semester should pay 300 RMB and for one academic year 600 RMB. This insurance includes the fee of hospitalization caused by SARS or other diseases and emergency medical treatment, etc. For further information, please contact Ping’ an Insurance Beijing office, 0086-10-66217668/59731668.

II.         Arrive and Check in:

A.      Our university offers the service of receiving students at Beijing Capital Airport 8:00 am to 8:00 pm from Sept. 2nd to Sept. 5th. If you arrive within this period and hope to enjoy the service, please log on the website of ISO (http://www.bnulxsh.com/pickup/eindex.php) before Aug. 30th to report your flight number and arriving time. You can only enjoy this service showing your Admission Notice. Therefore, do bring it with you.

B.      If you arrive at Beijing Capital Airport at other time, you may take a taxi to BNU and the charge will not be more than 150 RMB (including expressway fee). Or you can take the AIR BUS and get off at Bei Tai Ping Zhuang. The ticket charge is 16 RMB. BNU is located at #19 Xin Jie Kou Wai Street (between the second and the third north ring roads, located to the south of Bei Tai Ping Zhuang).

C.      When you arrive at BNU, please check in first at the international students’ apartment which you’ve reserved. As for the location of the apartments, please refer to the map enclosed together.

III.       Pay Fees and Register for Classes:

A.      Registration procedure: (Please take the steps one by one to ensure that you complete the whole procedure)

1.        Submit proof for insurance or purchase one if you do not have

2.        Get student’s ID card and materials for new students

3.        Take digital photo for our administration system

4.        Students with X visa need to verify health record or physical examination reports (fee for that: 60 RMB)

5.        Pay tuition

6.        Register with required materials

Attention: visas of expiration date prior to Sept. 2nd 2008(Sept. 2nd included) can not be extended or altered. New students should register with the visa of expiration date after Sept. 3rd 2008.

B.      Time and place

1.        Time: 8:30am – 11:00am and 2:00pm – 5:00pm from Sept. 3rd to Sept. 6th

2.        Place: Yingdong building

Note:

a.        Currencies Requirement: Only RMB is acceptable, or pay the tuition on credit card of China UnionPay.

b.       Student who pays tuition fee for one semester will get visa available for about 6 months. Student who pays tuition fee for 2 semesters will get visa available for about one year.

c.        Money Exchange: Cash or checks can be handled either at the China Agricultural Bank which is just opposite the east gate of BNU or at the Bei Tai Ping Zhuang Branch of Bank of China which is about 200 meters south of the east gate of BNU. Please take care when going out to exchange money or cashing checks off the campus.

d.       Teaching material expense is not included in the tuition fee.

e.        If new students who have paid the first semester's tuition propose to leave school within 2 weeks after SCHOOL BEGINS (not registration time), 70% of the tuition paid is refundable; to leave within 4 weeks, 50% of the tuition is refundable.to leave more than 4 weeks after SCHOOL BEGINS will not get back any of the tuition.

f.         If students who have paid the tuition for one academic year and then decide to leave in the second semester:

For students who pay the tuition in spring semester: if students propose to leave before June 15th, all the tuition for the second semester is refundable; if students propose to leave after June 16th and within 2 weeks dating from the day of the second semester’s class starts, 70% of the tuition for the second semester is refundable; if students propose to leave within 4 weeks dating from the day of the second semester’s class starts, 50% of the tuition for the second semester is refundable; if students propose to leave after 4 weeks dating from the first day of the second semester, the tuition for the second semester is not refundable.

For students who pay the tuition in fall semester: if students propose to leave before Dec. 15th, all the tuition for the second semester is refundable; if students propose to leave after Dec. 16th and within 2 weeks dating from the day of the second semester’s class starts, 70% of the tuition for the second semester is refundable; if students propose to leave within 4 weeks dating from the day of the second semester’s class starts, 50% of the tuition for the second semester is refundable; if students propose to leave after 4 weeks dating from the first day of the second semester, the tuition for the second semester is not refundable.

D.      Registration Materials Required:

1.        If you hold an X visa, you should submit:

a.        BNU Admission Notice with your signature

b.       Original form of JW201 or JW202

c.        Original form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners issued by Beijing Health Quarantine Bureau. (Do the procedure in No. 4 Registration Window)

d.       Three passport photos with light blue background (with your Chinese name and Admission Number on the back)

e.        RMB 400 (fee for applying Residence Permit)

f.         Proof of your insurance policy for overseas medical treatment and accident injury (original or notarized photocopy one)

g.       Registration Form of Temporary Residence (please bring with original form and a piece of photocopy) & your telephone number.

Note: According to Chinese law, students with an X visa must apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days of their entry date; otherwise, they will be considered staying illegally and have to pay a costly fine. To avoid it, please handle the above procedures as soon as possible.

2.        If you hold an F visa, you shoul6d submit:

a.        BNU Admission Notice with your signature

b.       Original form of JW201 or JW202

c.        Three passport photos with light blue background (with your Chinese name and Admission Number on the back)

d.       Proof of your insurance policy for overseas medical treatment and accident injury (original or notarized photocopy one)

e.        Registration Form of Temporary Residence (please bring with original form and a piece of photocopy)& telephone number.

E.       To register for classes at your respective departments/schools/institutes:

Unlike undergraduates (including trial undergraduate) and language students who are studying at the College of Chinese Language and Culture (herein later mentioned as CCLC), other international students need to register for classes at your respective departments/schools/institutes with a notice offered by ISO after you have finished the aforementioned registration procedures. Please take your classes on schedule in accordance with the notice of your department/school/institute.

IV.      Opening Ceremony and Placement Examination

A.      The Opening Ceremony of new semester will be held at 8:00am on Sept. 7th. Place refers to the invitation provided as registration.

B.      Undergraduates, trial undergraduates and language students who are studying at CCLC are required to take placement examinations including spoken and written ones which will be held in the morning from Sept. 4th to Sept.7th. And the time for each student is in accordance with the sequence of the registration and will be informed then. Students who have studied at our university from Feb. 2008 to Jun. 2008 do not need to take the exams. The result of placement will be announced after 5:00 pm Sept. 8th on the websites of CCLC and ISO and the inquiry windows in each apartment. Students of CCLC could buy your textbooks at the lobby of No. 1 International Students’ Apartment on Sept.9th. And classes start from Sept.10th.

C.    The autumn semester at CCLC is expected to end on Jan. 9th, 2009. As for the calendar of other schools or departments, please refer to the schedule of the university.
